Description: This position focuses on providing Physical Therapy Assistant treatments. Physical therapy is a core service provided by the organization. The role involves performing duties in a professional manner while respecting confidentiality. PTAs demonstrate qualities endorsed by following established standards of service excellence. Services are provided in compliance with standards, licensure requirements, and practice standards of Physical Therapy. Physical therapy assistants (PTAs) work as part of a team under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist. PTAs implement selected components of patient interventions and obtain data related to these interventions. They make modifications to ensure patient safety and comfort as directed by the physical therapist. PTAs assist in the treatment of individuals of all ages with medical problems that limit their abilities to move and perform daily activities. The physical therapist is responsible for the services provided by the PTA. PTAs cannot attempt to practice physical therapy not initiated, supervised, or terminated by a licensed physical therapist. Responsibilities include providing therapy treatments per the physical therapist's plan of care. PTAs review clinical records and may attend care conferences and meetings to discuss patient status with the healthcare team. They document patient encounter findings and treatments according to hospital policies. Services are provided in a timely manner after receipt of referral for both in-patient and out-patient populations. PTAs assist in administrative matters, clinic operations, and specialty areas as needed. They maintain supply stocks and ensure the cleanliness of the clinical space. PTAs may provide therapy services outside the hospital in conjunction with community health services. This includes educational services for staff and patient/family regarding therapeutic exercises and equipment. Working in this field may involve exposure to infectious organisms; precautions must be taken. The job may require repetitive or heavy lifting and good body mechanics. Therapy can be performed in various settings, including home visits and community events. There may be occasional travel to remote areas in various weather conditions. The position may require participation in health promotion teams and clinical education. PTAs must adhere to regulatory and practice standards set by relevant professional associations. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
