RN - PACU
Shift: 12 hours
Description:
A PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) nurse is a registered nurse (RN) responsible for caring for patients immediately after surgery or anesthesia, ensuring their safe recovery.
PACU nurses monitor patients vital signs, manage pain, and observe for any complications related to anesthesia.
Their primary role is to stabilize patients and ensure they are safe before they are either discharged home or transferred to a regular hospital unit.
Key Responsibilities:
Continuously monitor vital signs, oxygen levels, and overall health after surgery.
Administer pain relief medication and adjust doses based on the patient’s condition and pain level.
Help patients recover from the effects of anesthesia, including managing nausea, vomiting, and other side effects.
Identify and respond to any complications, such as respiratory distress or bleeding, and take immediate action.
Record patient progress, medications given, and any significant changes in condition.
Offer reassurance to patients and their families during the recovery process.
Communicate effectively with the surgical team, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care.
Qualifications:
Current RN license in the relevant province.
At least 1-2 years of nursing experience, with experience in a PACU or similar critical care area preferred.
Certifications in BLS and ACLS.
Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle emergency situations
