Description:
Unit requires candidates to have EPIC experience.
The unit has 32 beds but currently accommodates 20 due to staffing.
Nurse-to-patient ratios are no more than 5.
The unit takes both RNs and LPNs.
BLS is required, and NIHSS is required for all RNs and LPNs.
ACLS and PALS are recommended but not required.
Common diagnoses include CHF, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, orthopedic cases, detox, and postoperative cases.
Pediatric patients are included, but the unit does not handle laboring moms or titrating cardiac or insulin drips.
RNs are not required to titrate drips.
ICU monitors are utilized, and results are faxed for nurse documentation.
A house supervisor manages assignments for nurses and aides without a charge nurse present.
There are nurse aides on the unit with ratios of 3 per shift.
Respiratory therapy equipment such as CPAP and BiPAP is available and managed with assistance from respiratory therapists.
Shifts are 12 hours, typically from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM.
The manager will create the schedule, but preferences may be accommodated for block scheduling.
Weekend requirements include every other weekend.
Available shifts may include extra hours.
Holiday work rotates with regular staff.
Floating to assist other units is required, and medication administration training is provided.
Scrub color is flexible with exceptions for specific patterns.
Nurse aides assist as needed and help with tasks.
Implementation of procedures will occur through virtual means.
