Description: The Surgical Technician functions as an integral part of the perioperative team. They work under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Their role involves delivering safe and effective care to patients during the intraoperative period.

They apply the principles of asepsis to maintain a sterile environment. Demonstrates competency in select technical and psychomotor skills. Utilizes appropriate judgment and knowledge base in their duties. Provides age-specific care to obstetrical patients according to established policies and procedures. Assists in the organization and coordination of supplies and equipment. Maintains an efficient and cost-effective department through these efforts. The Surgical Technician maintains a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and themselves. Demonstrates awareness of safety and legal requirements established within the department. They charge for equipment and supplies. Participation in room turnover and set-up is also required. Responsible for maintaining and cleaning equipment. Identifies items needing repair as per established policies. Effectively performs sterilization and disinfection, documenting loads accordingly.

Demonstrates ability to scrub basic surgical procedures independently. Possesses problem-solving skills related to the procedures being performed. Applies basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology for optimal surgical patient care. Utilizes basic knowledge of electricity, chemistry, computers, robotics, and lasers for patient care. Demonstrates knowledge and practice of patient care concepts and perioperative teamwork. Applies principles of sterile technique during surgical procedures.
