Experience: Minimum 2 years of Operating Room experience

License: Registered Nurse license in the State of Pennsylvania

Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Must-Have:

Completion of an accredited registered nurse program is required; BSN preferred. Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to function as a team member and as a liaison between patient and staff. Demonstrated mental and emotional tolerance when dealing with patients and families. Knowledge of perioperative nursing practices. Accountability for maintaining knowledge, skills, and competency in perioperative nursing.

Description: Responsible for overall nursing practice in the operating room. Provides professional nursing care based on current perioperative nursing knowledge. Utilizes nursing process through assessment of the patient and pertinent health data. Analyzes collected data based on perioperative nursing theory and experience. Develops a plan of care to meet patient needs. Implements nursing interventions based on current practice standards. Evaluates patient care outcomes for pediatric through geriatric age populations. Develops and updates a plan of care based on ongoing assessment of the patient in pre-operative and post-operative settings. Ensures the availability and functionality of supplies and equipment. Maintains a sterile field during procedures based on principles of asepsis. Recognizes changes in health care status and directs care to provide for patient safety. Applies principles of aseptic technique, surgical technique, and patient care management. Documents individualized changes in the plan of care. Provides health education by offering information to patients and families related to surgical nursing functions. Documents patient interactions appropriately. Maintains awareness of professional issues and remains current on concepts, trends, and ethics related to perioperative nursing.
