Certifications: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association

Must-Have:

Acute care surgical floor experience
Stepdown/PCU experience preferred
Preceptor and charge experience preferred

Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders on assigned patients. Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients. Observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patients in sharing care plans while in the hospital and at the time of discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

This is a mixed stepdown and acute care unit that cares for post-surgical transplant patients. Patients require close monitoring for infection, rejection, and timely medication delivery. The nursing staff may work in both medical/surgical and stepdown settings depending on patient acuity and skill set. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential. Ability to maintain positive working relationships with other staff is required. Some computer skills are necessary.
