Radiology - Sonographer/Ultrasound Tech

License: Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program

Certifications: ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (OB/GYN)

Must-Have: ARDMS Fetal Echocardiography (FE) registry

Description: The Client Fetal Medicine Sonographer provides specialized high-risk obstetric ultrasound services. This role assists in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of maternal and fetal conditions. The position involves performing a wide range of advanced OB ultrasound examinations. The sonographer assists physicians with invasive procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling. The role includes selecting appropriate equipment and transducers, educating patients, and obtaining relevant health histories. Effective communication with patients and support persons is essential. Advanced expertise is required in detecting and evaluating fetal pathology. The sonographer communicates findings to the physician and ensures diagnostic quality imaging.

Essential Job Functions include: Performing high-risk obstetric ultrasound studies according to established protocols. Assisting with invasive obstetric procedures as directed. Importing images and clinical data into systems, ensuring accurate patient record documentation. Evaluating fetal anatomy, growth, and well-being while identifying abnormal findings. Providing patient education and support before, during, and after procedures. Maintaining examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness, and readiness for procedures. Performing high-level disinfection of ultrasound transducers per infection control standards. Collaborating with physicians and clinical staff to ensure coordinated patient care. Participating in quality improvement initiatives and departmental process improvements. Mentoring and supporting new sonographers and students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Demonstrates sound judgment, patience, and maintains a professional demeanor. Exercises tact, discretion, and sensitivity while maintaining confidentiality. Can perform essential job functions successfully in a fast-paced environment. Learns current and new computer applications and office equipment. Possesses strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Can analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.

Schedule Requirements: Regular and sustained attendance is required. The position may necessitate working beyond a standard workweek, including after-hour shifts. On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational or patient needs.

Physical Requirements: Lifting up to 50 pounds and moving objects or people as needed. Sitting for extended periods while adjusting body position to prevent discomfort. Standing and walking within the work area, requiring good balance and coordination. Occasional climbing, twisting, bending, stooping, and kneeling as necessary. Reaching above shoulder level and using upper extremities to exert force as needed. Performing fine-finger movements continuously, including typing and using equipment. Maintaining close visual acuity to analyze data and read materials. Learning new tasks, remembering processes, and maintaining focus. Handling exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, and various chemicals. Dealing with emotionally challenging situations involving patients and families.
