Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, renewed every two years.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification, renewed every two years.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, renewed every two years.

Must-Have: Experience in EPIC.

Description: Responsible to the Unit Director for overall nursing practice. Includes the responsibility for assessment of childbearing individuals, neonates, and family needs. Development of a plan of care to meet those needs. Implementation of nursing interventions. Evaluation of nursing care based on outcomes for the population served.

Effectively functions as a team member and as a liaison between patients and staff. Supports and encourages harmonious communication skills. Job requires strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills. Communicates in a highly professional manner at all times. Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance when dealing with ill individuals. Uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude when relating with patients, families, and co-workers.

Essential Functions: Assists individuals and infants to attain and maintain optimum health by:

Assessing patient and family developmental levels, health status, and health history, including sexual and reproductive history and identified learning needs.
Performing initial assessments and stabilization of the neonate.
Developing a plan of care based on identified physical and learning needs.
Teaching self-care and/or the care of the newborn to patients and families.

Assists individuals and families to achieve and maintain a balance between personal growth needs of the individual family members and optimum family functioning by:

Considering data related to role relationships and interaction patterns of families when developing a plan of care.
Promoting understanding of the influence of family relationships on health status.

Identifies and intervenes with vulnerable patients and families-at-risk to prevent potential developmental and health problems by:

Providing support and collaborating with other health care disciplines in the treatment and referrals of families at risk.
Facilitating interaction between family members to promote the bonding process.

Promotes an environment free of hazards to reproduction, growth, development, wellness, and recovery from illness. Assists patients and families in understanding and coping with health issues and childbirth. Accepts responsibility and accountability for maintaining knowledge, skills, and competency in the care of individuals and infants by:

Maintaining an awareness of professional issues.
Updating knowledge and clinical skills on an ongoing basis.
