Description: The position requires a Registered Nurse for an IMC Stepdown unit. The nurse will work straight nights from 1900 to 0700. The unit has a total of 20 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are as follows: 1:5 to 1:6 during the day and 1:4 at night for IMC. The common diagnoses and types of patients include: Elderly patients with cardiac issues like CHF exacerbation and Afib RVR. Pulmonary conditions such as pneumonia and COPD exacerbation. Neurological cases including falls, TIA, and stroke. Skin conditions like cellulitis and decubitus ulcers in paraplegic patients. Gastrointestinal issues including GI bleed and pancreatitis. Genitourinary concerns like UTIs and kidney stones. Orthopedic cases including fractures and post-operative surgeries. Patients may present with sepsis or require outpatient transfusions or long-term antibiotic infusions. Pediatric patients are typically stable, presenting with respiratory illnesses or post-operative needs. The RN role includes titration of various drips, including heparin and insulin. RNs must be able to read rhythm strips as tele-monitoring is done remotely. Charge Nurses take patient assignments, while House Supervisors do not take assignments. Certified Nursing Assistants are available on the unit, providing support to the RNs. Respiratory Therapists are available 24/7. Weekend and holiday shifts are required every other week. Navy scrubs are worn by RNs, while CNAs wear ceil blue scrubs. The unit will provide 1-2 days of orientation specific to the unit after the initial hospital orientation.
