Description: Unit Notes: Med Surg RN Nights. Start date is 4/29. Length of assignment is 14 weeks. Float to ER if needed. Shift duration is 3-12 hour shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM, every other weekend. Guaranteed hours are 36 hours per week. ACLS and BLS certifications are required and PALS is preferred. One year of experience is required. Previous travel experience is required (2 assignments minimum). Ability to learn EMR systems is essential. Unit census is around 3 patients at a time with 16 beds available. Nurse to patient ratio is 1:3-4. Nights have 3 RNs/LPNs or 2 RNs/LPNs and 1 paramedic. Days have 2-3 RNs/LPNs with more support staffing. Common diagnoses include geriatric, minimal pediatric, post-operative orthopedic, general surgery post-operative, and general vascular surgery. Patients are typically transferred out if they require a higher level of care. Experience in critical access hospitals is preferred. RNs are required to titrate drips. Common titratable medications include Amiodarone, Cardizem, and Levophed. Telemetry patients are present, with telemetry strips interpreted by RNs. A charge nurse and ER nurse share roles, assisting on Med Surg when not busy in the ER. Nurse aides are present on the unit if staffed adequately. Respiratory equipment used includes CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow. Vented patients are minimal and transferred out once intubated. Travelers are not expected to have experience with ventilated patients. Scheduling is managed by the Director of Nursing through a digital platform. Shifts are from 7 PM to 7 AM with bedside report expected. Every other weekend is required, with consideration for weekend-only nurses. Holidays may be included in the contract outside of RTO. Call or standby requirements are low, with core staff utilized first unless travelers volunteer. Floating may occur in emergent situations, but travelers will not be left alone if not trained in that area. Dress code requires dark colored scrubs, with black pants and navy or maroon tops allowed.
